My bucket. The list is below. |
I don't understand my resistance to writing a bucket list. I've done so many things I would have put on a bucket list if I'd written one years ago, and I've done just as many things I wouldn't have imagined. I could have checked off a hell of a bucket list, and that's just so far. I think maybe I'm afraid if I write it down it won't happen, because that's the way my life tends to go. For me, it's best to take what comes to me and not ask for what I want. I don't even talk about my non-bucket list, at least until recently.
But I have overcome the block just long enough to enter a contest. I don't enter a lot of contests. I won a grocery store shopping spree once that I entered just so I could get away from a clown, but otherwise, I don't tend to win these kinds of things. I'm strangely compelled to enter this one though, so I'm jumping through the hoops to do it.*
1. Go to a hockey game.
2. Go to Memphis, eat BBQ, listen to the blues.
3. Go to Asheville. Maybe stay.
4. Buy my own house—the perfect one.
5. Run an underground restaurant—at least one night.
6. Buy a muscle car.
7. Go 30 mph on my bicycle.
8. Write a book and go on a book tour.
9. Write a one-woman play and perform it.
10. Model for an art class.
11. Share a cookie.
12. Get in my van, choose a direction at random, and drive the backroads for at least a week. Maybe sleep in my van. Talk to at least ten new people every day.
13. Greece/Ireland/Scotland/Italy…
14. Learn to salsa dance.
15. Play in a blues band.
16. Kill my own Thanksgiving turkey(s).
There now. I've done it. Now I've really done it. And I fully expect I've jinxed myself for each and every one of these activities, if I hadn't already in other ways. That's the reason I added the unnecessary 16th on the list. I'm going to kill turkeys today, so I know at least number 16 will actually happen.
* One of the requirements for this contest is that I give a little call-out to some people. I've never used my blog for advertising, and I don't intend to make it a habit. I wanted to tweak the grammar, but it has to be these exact words.
This is my entry in the Just Ask Bucket List Getaway Giveaway. Just Ask offers a breast and ovarian cancer screening and is encouraging people to share 15 things that I want to enjoy in my lifetime as a reminder to be aware of my health. Want to enter? There's a hole in the bucket, Reticula, there's a hole!
That's probably where all those fun things on my bucket list are going to go now that I put them into words. Right out of that hole.
ReplyDeleteIf you ever get to Asheville, e-mail me. It's only four hours away (less if I don't drink any water). I will get there. :)
ReplyDeleteI'll get there, MLight, and for sure I'll let you know.
