Nov 1: NaBloPoMo

Why the hell did I sign up for NaBloPoMo (National Blog Posting Month)? One reason, obviously, is that I have to constantly prove I'm a crazy, fucking redhead. Nevermind. Crazy and redhead are redundant. The truth is it's because they're giving away random prizes because writing is my passion, my art, my life. My assignment is to write a minimum of one blog post every day in November. I am committed this time.

One or two of you might remember my epic failure when I publicly announced I was going to write a poem a day for NaPoWriMo. I almost finished it.  I only wrote one haiku and that was in the comments. In my defense, the last quarter of grad school probably isn't the best time to commit to writing a daily poem, so I'm not going to let that failure deter me. I was lucky I didn't do a Sylvia Plath that quarter, and I don't mean write lots of poetry.

Seriously, all I have going on right now is that 40-pound stack of research papers I need to grade by Wednesday. And the play I'm stage-managing. We're in tech week, more appropriately called hell week, and we open this Friday. And there's the musical I'm in, but I only have two rehearsals (that I can attend) this week. And coming up in two weeks is the end of fall quarter and a few dozen portfolios to grade. And then Thanksgiving, but before that all those turkeys to kill.* And a friend's 70th birthday party to plan and execute. And my library books are overdue ..... oh god. Wait! I need to put a paper bag over my mouth and nose ..... hold on ...... I'll be back tomorrow .... and the next day ..... and the next ....

* That will be a bloody cheery post. Wait for it.

  1. I hadn't heard of this one before. I wish I only had one blog because if I commit to write one blog post a day I know that i will split them between the two blogs. Perhaps I will commit but not sign up.

  2. I pledge to read and comment on each post. How's that for support?

  3. Kristin, I don't think you have to only write on one blog, do you? Can you cross-post just in November and then delete the posts after? Or you can upload to Blogher every day and not worry about it. You don't even have to own a blog to do this, so I think you'd be OK with 2 blogs.

  4. Diplomat, that will help a lot. Comments encourage me to write and post more often. Otherwise I feel like I'm talking to myself and I do that enough.
